Working out and getting ripped isn't only down to how much time and effort you put in whilst at the gym. Although this is important (and you won't get ripped without it), your diet also plays a massive role. The right foods can help your muscle gain efforts and the wrong ones can hinder it. You should probably already be aware of the benefits of fruit for your health, but they can actually help your workout too. Fruits are generally considered good for you, and we're going to look at some of the best fruits for getting fit and building muscle.

Traditionally, many body builders tend to avoid fruit because too much fructose can lead to more fat being created. The reality is, fruit shouldn't be completely avoided. As long as you don't over-indulge, fruit can have a number of top benefits for fitness fanatics and bodybuilders alike.

As a side note, i’m highly allergic to pineapple, so you won’t find that mentioned below, but i’m sure they are great for getting in shape and building muscle as well.

When to Eat Fruit

The best time for eating fruit is in the morning, because your body is most suitably prepared for it. In the morning, your body is far less likely to convert the fruit into fructose. Fruit is also recommended about an hour before a workout as well as just after one.

Bananas

Bananas are recommended for bodybuilders because they're high in carbs and can help prevent muscle breakdown, especially in the morning. Bananas work great in a protein shake  and are also high in potassium which aids proper muscular contraction.

Wild Blueberries

You can normally find these frozen in most health stores. Research has shown that wild blueberries contain a good amount of antioxidants which can be great when added to shakes or yogurts. The good thing about frozen blueberries is that the freezing takes place when they are most ripe, which locks in the highest amount of antioxidants.

Kiwis

Surprisingly, kiwis are higher in vitamin c than oranges, but they've gone under the radar for too long. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant which can help trim fat. Most people rely on oranges for their vitamin C intake when the reality is that kiwis have more. Vitamin C is needed by your body for the proper oxidation of fatty acids, so it's important for anyone trying to get in shape.

Apples

Apples are good, but don't peel them! A lot of their goodness is actually in the peel, which can help burn fat and increase skeletal mass. Apples are also quite low in their glycemic index so are therefore ideal to eat before a workout.

Eat Fruit

Whilst you shouldn't over-rely on fruit if you're trying to get in shape, they shouldn't be avoided altogether. A balanced diet is necessary when working out, and although protein and other food groups are important, the benefits of fruit shouldn't be neglected. Fruits aren't just good for getting in shape, they're good for your health and are a great supplement to what should already be a healthy diet. Having a couple of fruit in the morning of before a workout can put you at a major advantage compared to those who avoid them altogether.
