Mom's Birthday Bash - Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

milestone birthdays call for BIG celebration

If you follow me on Instagram, there is a good chance you saw my post and stories from my mom’s recent birthday celebration at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in downtown Chicago. We wanted to make this milestone birthday a special one for her, so we wanted to plan something we knew she would love!

Who doesn’t love riding in a limo?

We decided that the first way to jazz up the evening would be with hiring a stretch limo to take us downtown to Ruth’s Chris so we could all be together and that way no one would have to worry about driving (especially since rush hour traffic on a Saturday night in Chicago is the worst).

I got some bottles of champagne and these adorable gold glitter disposable flutes from Target so we could start the celebration on the ride down.

Once we arrived at Ruth’s Chris I was taken back to our table to decorate it with some cute and simple decorations I had bought for the table on Amazon, including a centerpiece that said “60” and little gold “60” confetti to sprinkle around the table. We were then seated immediately after at the exact time of our reservation, which was at 7:00.

bring on the food

The reason we chose to go to Ruth’s Chris is because it is my mom’s absolute favorite restaurant! Every time we go the service is spectacular, the food is perfect, and it is always an enjoyable experience … Her birthday bash included (of course)!

We were seated at a round table towards the back of the restaurant, and it was perfect for the 9 of us (we prefer round tables since it is easier to converse and share food).

We started off with drinks and appetizers, and I want to highlight a few of our favorites. I personally do not eat fish (or seafood), but of all the appetizers we ordered everyone raved about the seared ahi tuna, which was complemented by a spirited sauce with ginger, mustard and beer! We also ordered a delicious baked goat cheese, calamari, and lobster bisques!

For dinner I chose the petite filet complemented with the truffle crust… OMG!!! It was one of the best steaks I have ever had! If you are someone who loves truffle, I highly recommend adding this to your steak! It was rich and flavorful, but not overpowering (you can also ask for it on the side). The rest of our table ordered everything from the New York Strip, to Surf & Turf, and salmon. Everything came out PERFECT! One of the things I love most about Ruth’s Chris is that all the steaks come out on a 500 degree plate (so don’t touch it) and the steaks are HOT and cooked to perfection!

Of course we didn’t only have steak… We got a ton of sides to share for the table that accompanied everyone’s main course perfectly. Some of our favorites included the creamed spinach, au gratin potatoes, and shoestring fries —But if you are wanting more variety or something different, they have a ton of sides you can choose from on their menu.

a birthday for the books

It truly was a perfect evening filled with lots of love, laughter, & great food! We will definitely be back for future celebrations (or maybe just a Saturday night)! If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, I highly recommend Ruth’s Chris! They have locations all across the country so make sure to check out the one that is closest to you!
