I Am Starting Acupuncture

Acupuncture - Why?

So, I am assuming most people reading this have a general idea of what acupuncture is, but I am going to give you a very brief overview of why I chose to start doing acupuncture.

The whole point of acupuncture is to help stimulate your central nervous system. This is done by using small needles to penetrate the skin at certain points on the body, which releases chemicals into the brain, muscles, and spinal cord. Ultimately, this helps to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote both physical and emotional well-being.

Personally

I have shared before that something I struggle with is my anxiety. Living with anxiety is something that is constant, and because there is no “fix”, it is important to find ways to manage and live with it.

I have always been a fan of natural and holistic approaches to health, so it only seemed natural for me to try acupuncture.

aj - Stella’s Haven

While I have always been interested in doing acupuncture, I never knew where to go or who to reach out to about finding an acupuncturist. It wasn’t until I was recently at an event where I met AJ that I found my acupuncturist. AJ was at the event giving out/putting in ear seeds (small seeds that stimulate pressure in your ear) and after she put my ear seeds in, her and I got to talking. Immediately I could tell she was extremely knowledgeable about acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

In fact, AJ has some very impressive credentials (DACM, L.Ac, RN). Specifically, this means she is a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, a licensed acupuncturist AND a registered nurse! I told her I had always been interested in doing acupuncture, but never knew where to go. It was then that she told me about Stella’s Haven where she works. There she offers traditional acupuncture and adjunct modalities such as moxibustion, herbal medicine, and cupping, as well as cosmetic acupuncture + facial rejuvenation. Some of the most common conditions she treats are: Digestion, migraines, women’s health, stress & anxiety, pain, and muscle tension.

Stella’s Haven is located at 1704 W Chicago Ave in Chicago, IL and in addition to offering acupuncture, it is a salon that also provides services such as waxing, lashes, and facials. I love the space and how calming and charming it felt.

Once I checked in with AJ, I filled out a very comprehensive overview of my medical and personal history (easily on an Ipad) that AJ then went over with me in greater detail. I felt very comfortable with AJ and that I was able to confide in her (which is essential) so that she could best understand my needs and treat me appropriately.

stay tuned…

I wanted to use this blog post to introduce my acupuncture journey, as I plan to continue sharing posts about my experience. In the meantime, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out!

If you are interested in speaking with AJ and booking an appointment, you can do so here.
